b' 8An expressive faadeA scholarly and industrious life went on behindthe elegantly understated faade overlooking Place du Molard. The configuration of the faade reflects the compromises and constraints faced by the contractor. Discontinuity and asymmetry are signs that the plots were not acquired as one block. The classical regularity stops short for the last three rows of windows to the east. Similarly, it was not possible to extend to the west, because the adjacent plot was too narrow. The neoclassical arches on the fifth floor are the result of elevation in the 19th century.
